This is just a little tribute to one of the most underrated songwriters of all time, Townes Van Zandt, whom I’ve been obsessing over the last couple of weeks. He never achived much commercial success before his death in 1997 (or after for that matter) but he’s been hugely influential on other musicians. “Waiting Around To Die” is one of his best songs and here’s a very emotional rendition of it from the documentary Be Here To Love Me: A Film About Townes Van Zandt. The performance starts at 4:12 but the discussion before it is well worth watching. “Waiting Around To Die” first appeared on his 1968 debut album For The Sake Of The Song and also on my personal favourite of his, 1971′s Townes Van Zandt.
