Logging on to Facebook just now, I saw a rather fantastic friend status update in my stalker feed:
This is, as I mentioned, fantastic news. Eastbound and Down premiered on HBO to spectacularly low ratings three months ago, but over the course of its six-episode season, it picked up a steady cult audience; I tuned in for every episode, knowing full well that the show was quite terrible, but it was also utterly hilarious, proving Danny McBride to be one of Hollywood’s true rising stars (which is interesting, because I didn’t originally find him to be very engaging in the few films I’d seen him in, and thought he was something of a one-trick pony, but his role here is vastly different from Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express).
HBO’s president of west coast programming, Michael Lombardi, announced the show’s renewal earlier today, saying:
“Eastbound & Down’s‘ raucous comedy sparked a loyal and enthusiastic following that grew throughout the season, and we’re happy to bring the show back for more innings. It will be fun to see what happens to Kenny in season two.”
If you never had a chance to tune in for season one, count this as a blessing – and make sure to keep an eye out in 2010.
