Bradford Cox, the man behind Deerhunter and Atlas Sound, made a bit of a boo-boo on his blog yesterday. He meant to link to a rip of a new vinyl 7-inch via Mediafire, but instead linked to his entire Mediafire shared folder, which included – amongst other things – a new unmastered album from Deerhunter. Entitled “Weird Era Cont.,” it seems to be a Crytpograms follow-up. Many fans are speculating as to whether it could be the “surprise” set to be included with the physical release of Microcastle in October. The version in his Mediafire folder is unmastered, but basically completed.
I haven’t listened to the album and I’m not sure I want to. It seems a bit wrong to raid the poor guy’s shared folders. I mean, did you see the picture of him up there? I feel sorry for him already; I don’t need the additional guilt of taking advantage of his mistakes. At first I thought he had maybe done it on purpose, but then he deleted his blog entry and put password protection on his Mediafire folder, so I guess I was wrong on that one.
Nevertheless, it’s kind of amusing.
